Sophia Barthelmes ist eine ernste Wiese oder vielleicht auch ernst oder unernst weise oder ernst unweise auf eine unernste Weise auf einer Wiese. Sie schreibt und inszeniert, ist manchmal Wirtin, Buchhalterin, Bühnentechnikerin und Seefahrerin. Studium der Kultur- und Literaturwissenschaften, Geschichte, Wolkenbewegungen, Schwalbenflüge; außerdem die sog. Schauspiel-Regie (rex, regis, der König; naja.) in Hamburg. 2020-2024 ist sie Teil von Forum Text des Dramaforum Graz bei Peter Waterhouse und Edith Draxl. Sie realisiert trandsiziplinäre performative und installative Arbeiten für Räume und Bühnen, kollaboriert mit Künstler*innen verschiedener Sparten, besonders der Neuen Musik und der Bildenden Kunst und ist spezialisiert auf Arbeiten mit Sprech- und Bürger*innenchören. Sophia Barthelmes schreibt Dramatik, Essay, Prosa, Lyrik und dazwischen und ist Teil von versatorium - Verein für Gedichte und Übersetzen, Wien. 2025 erscheint im Verlag Rohstoff bei Matthes und Seitz Berlin ihr Langgedicht "ein reim" und sie erhält den Literaturförderungspreis der Stadt Graz. Sophia Barthelmes lebt meistens oder am meisten in Berlin.

Sophia Barthelmes is an artist working in the field of text, space, sound and movement. Her works are installative and transdisciplinary, including pieces of sound-art, dance and poetry. Her work researchs on theatre as a fluid, multilayered & -perspectived space and space of simultaneousness, based on site-specific improvisation on the poetic text. The poetry of sound, body, space and text is to be a mode of communication, that is experimental and accessible. She is specialised in staging choruses, choral speaking and arranging landscapes of many and diverse voices. Sophia Barthelmes works as a director as well as a performer and author. She studied cultural and literary science and history; theatre directing in Hamburg and literary writing in Graz, next to Peter Waterhouse. She is part of versatorium - Association for poems and translation, Vienna. In 2025 she publishs her book „ein reim“, one long poem, at Rohstoff Verlag at Matthes und Seitz Berlin, is nominated for Retzhofer Dramapreis and happily receives the prize for literature promotion of the city of Graz, Austria. She mostly resides in Berlin.
